Dr. Tippey & Professor Reuschling

As the first design studio of the Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies, this course introduces students to the iterative design process used by architects and other designers as a method of inquiry and idea generation. While students learn basic drawing conventions, they also learn to interrogate and challenge the architectural conventions in pursuit of new ways of conceiving space, and they learn to see the created image as a tool for communication. Simultaneously, students learn to read three-dimensional space as a phenomenon of the human experience, and to document and articulate these readings both visually and verbally. Students work in 2D and 3D modes, as well as to toggle between analog and digital modes. Reading and writing are essential components of this studio.

Composition and Value

Using my strongest figure ground composition, I created four value studies using charcoal, india ink, collage work, and digital linework that were balanced, dynamic, and layered.
