Project Title:

”DASH High School in Miami Florida”

Course:
ARCH 40102: Integrated Design Studio

Instructor:
Luis Santos

Year Level:
Fourth Year

Project Description:

The Studio will focus upon a new high school for the Miami Design District. This new building will enlarge the existing nearby Design and Architecture Senior High with a facility of outstanding design quality, community engagement, and educational quality. Its place in the city also imagines the building’s potential to become a landmark for the district and symbolize the cities’ commitment to education. The city expects an innovative school of the highest architectural quality that creates a meaningful presence in Miami and offers civic space where residents and visitors can gather. Sensitivity to the culture, climate, and urban fabric should be used to create a sustainable place from an economic, social, and environmental perspective. Strong architectural identity, connections to the urban context, the educational community, and the nearby waterfront should be evident.

The new architecture and design high school uses natural air movement to create a building that needs minimal mechanical air temperature control. The cooling system, façade, program org, and structural scheme, all work to create an aesthetic texture or hatch expressed on the building exterior.
