Project Description:
The project was a comprehensive and integrated design of a 100,000 SF High School in Miami Florida. Students were asked to develop a relationship between spatial, material, and systems configuration in relation to building figuration.
“Current”, a new proposal for the Design and Architecture Senior Highschool, focuses on balancing the public and private experience in order to create an engaging yet safe learning environment for students. Located on the edge of the Design District, with close proximity to the Wynwood art district as well as the Miami Bay, the design is heavily influenced by the aesthetic qualities and the climatic conditions of the surrounding area. The distribution of public and private program throughout the building can be observed formally as two masses of the larger whole, visually dictated by the preservation of the previously existing alleyway. This axis becomes an extension of 39th Street, as well as a breezeway where the tropic Miami winds are funneled through the site..
