As emerging destinations gain popularity, the hospitality industry is quick to follow. Interior design within hospitality plays a vital role in shaping a brand’s identity and curating a memorable guest experience. Bespoke, boutique, innovative, and thematic design elements are often emphasized to evoke specific emotional responses—whether it’s wonder and curiosity, rest and relaxation, intensity and excitement, or glamour and intrigue.
In Cleveland, one of the most recent and debated developments involves the potential relocation of the Cleveland Browns Stadium to land purchased in 2024 in the city of Brook Park, Ohio, a southwestern suburb of Cleveland. As part of this ID Studio 3 course exploration, students were challenged to develop conceptual design proposals for a hotel near this proposed project development. Student work included design solutions for the lobby, corridor, guest suite, and rooftop bar. While students developed each phase of the hotel as individual components, they were encouraged to continue to refine their comprehensive hotel design package over the course of the semester.

Riverside Depot and The Engine Room
This boutique hotel near downtown Cleveland is designed as a hub for Cleveland’s past, present, and future. With inspiration from the port of Cleveland’s rich history and operations, and the Cleveland Brown’s past and future stadiums, the hotel takes the shape of an industrial shell with dramatic and fluid interior elements. These elements range from pops of colors and plant-life to fluid elements which draw the eye. Gritty, cool-toned textures contrast with warm wood and lustrous finishes throughout the hotel’s interiors.
Through a five-part project: Perception, Public, Passage, Private, and Party, the Riverside Depot comes to life. Beginning with Perception, unique elements of Cleveland merged into a drawdel, which informed the interior spaces through aspects of form: fluidity, density, contrast, and angularity.
At the end of the interior journey is The Engine Room, a rooftop bar and patio open to the public, serving drinks and appetizers throughout the afternoon and evening, which provides its own experience in a blend of interior and exterior spaces.

The Gilded Eclipse
With the newly proposed fully enclosed Cleveland Browns stadium, opportunities for year-round concerts and events are now possible. With that in mind, the Gilded Eclipse Hotel is envisioned to be a luxurious, elegant destination catering to performers, players, and business travelers coming to the Cleveland area. This project explores the contrast between curvilinear and grid-like forms, a rich palette of colors and finishes, and dynamic sight lines. While housed within a single structure, each area of the hotel offers a distinct experience, inviting guests to discover something new as they move further into space.

The Legends Club
As a luxurious stay within the mixed-use development adjacent to the new Huntington Bank Field, the Legends Club at Brook Park serves as both a symbol of local pride and a welcoming hub for visitors and fans alike. It establishes a dynamic first impression, reflecting the spirit of Cleveland through the lens of modern hospitality, and offers a space where fans, travelers, and locals are drawn in to celebrate Cleveland's forward momentum -setting the tone for a destination ready to redefine the region.

This studio course builds on prior design experience, advancing students' skills in spatial programming, detailing, fabrication, and documentation. It emphasizes designing for human habitation by integrating technical knowledge with creative exploration. The course centers around a five-part hospitality design project focused on the development of a new hotel located in Brook Park, near the proposed Cleveland Browns stadium relocation.

The Vault
The Vault, located in Brook Park, Ohio, was established as a boutique hotel designed to accommodate travelers visiting the newly relocated Cleveland Browns stadium. In light of the ongoing controversy surrounding the stadium's move, The Vault offers guests a sense of comfort and familiarity through its thoughtful, Cleveland-inspired design. Whether visiting Brook Park for the first time or returning as a seasoned Cleveland regular, guests can enjoy an immersive local experience without leaving the area. The hotel's moody and industrial aesthetic creates a warm and calming atmosphere while fostering a strong connection to the culture and character of greater Cleveland.

Day to Night Hotel
The Day to Night luxury hotel creates colorful and indulgent atmospheres, referencing elements of day and night. While the hotel is located in Brook Park, just outside of Cleveland, bringing elements from the city to the hotel was also important to my design. At the beginning of the semester, we created a set of collages that celebrated Cleveland and then a drawdel based on those. My drawdel included the Cleveland Metroparks, the Cultural Gardens, and most importantly, the diverse public art and sculpture scene. I specifically focused on the public art and sculpture to create my hotel design while intentionally creating spaces that allowed for comfort at all times of day.
To continue the art and sculpture theme, the hallway includes many textured materials, arched doorways, and large built-in room numbers. In the suite, the headboard is the sculptural element, the gold contrasting against the dark silk wallcovering behind it. Finally, the rooftop bar has a large sculptural built-in that brightens up the center of the space like a sunset, while night falls in the background.
This hotel creates an atmosphere that allows for comfortable transitions between night and day, all while referencing the beauty of public art and sculpture.
